Salsa New York style
Salsa New York Style - History, Style, and Benefits
Salsa NY or New York-style salsa, started in New York City’s Latin dance clubs in the 1970s. Inspired by Puerto Rican and Cuban rhythms, it was shaped by New York’s own mix of jazz and R&B, creating a unique and lively style. Dancer Eddie Torres helped define its signature “on 2” timing, which makes the moves flow with the rhythm in a smooth and stylish way.
What Makes Salsa NY Special
Unlike some salsa styles, Salsa NY is danced in a straight line, with elegant turns and spins. This approach, combined with its timing, gives it a graceful and controlled look that feels sophisticated.
Why Try Salsa NY?

Who are we?
Gheorge Lazar and Timea
Timea began her career in Belgium as a consultant at a temporary employment agency in Ghent. Her role keeps her in constant contact with individuals from around the globe, helping to steer their careers and make meaningful changes in their lives.
"We embrace every talent and spark joy in their lives." This is the philosophy she also applies to her dancing, along with her skills and infectious smile.
Nine years ago, she discovered her passion for Latino dances. Her love for dancing began in childhood when her father taught her Hungarian dances. During high school, she played the flute in a band, where she discovered she had a good ear for music. Hearing salsa for the first time was a turning point in her life. She fell in love with its history, instruments, rhythm, but most importantly, the way dancing made her feel—free and happy.
In recent years, she has concentrated on salsa NY, a style that has enhanced her focus and improved her control over both her body and mind. Timea loves embracing new challenges and is eager to share her knowledge and experiences with every student.
"What matters is not who danced the best, but who enjoyed it the most."
